Group Counseling
|
Students can be involved with individual counseling through the request of an administrator, teacher, staff member, parent, or themselves. When I feel a student may benefit from more than 3 regular meetings with the counselor on the same topic, I always ask for parent permission.
Some topics to work on individually with the counselor include: friendship, bullying, grief, home/family, anxiety, and much more. |
Group counseling is a chance for students to work with peers on similar issues. Group topics that will be offered for Spring 2016 include:
Stress Busters (Coping w/ anxiety & worries) Friendship (Making & keeping friends) Social Skills (appropriate behaviors, respect, solving conflict, apologies) Growth Mindset (believing one can improve & learn) Group Recommendations come from teachers. When students are chosen for groups, parent permission is always received. |
Classroom Counseling
As a preventative piece of the school counseling program, classroom counseling (or guidance) is provided in grades K-5. Classroom counseling topics include, but are not limited to, friendship, school success, study skills, character traits (honesty, respect), and fairness.
